    Our project pursue its design research agenda investigating digital and analogue forms of computation in the pursuit of systemic design applications that are scenario and time-based.     Digital experiment

    Advances in computational tools such as computational fluid dynamics software have led to more detailed simulations of building performance. However, building simulation tools have often only been used as evaluation tools with intuition still trumping the generative capabilities of such tools. Andrew Marsh and Azam Khan, both researchers at Autodesk’s Environment & Ergonomics Research Group, suggested that “the most common building simulators used today are based on patterns created in decades long past as monolithic systems.”1 As fluid dynamics simulation move to real-time based models, their abilities are moving from simple evaluation tools to becoming generative tools that can be truly integral to the design process.     Physical experiment

    Physical experiments aimed at producing qualitative architectural effects that exhibited the performance of latent building systems. In focusing on fluids as the primary medium for the conditioning of space the material experiments were concerned the expansion and contraction of matter as fluids passes through it. Expandable materials required investigations into polymers that were both synthetic and natural with a primary focus on latex, silicone and sometimes acrylics. The fabrication of such materials often required casting and moulding and the creation of composite materials in order to assemble different physical properties such as rigidity, flexibility, expandability, and the ability to pass fluid into a single material.     In aiming to create an architecture that incorporates fluid based building systems with a particular focus on issues of conditioning space and human comfort, it is important to choose a sight in which the architecture, or the prototype, flourishes. Since we are following an ecological model in the way the systems both work or grow together, the site should have qualities which encourage distinction during the generative process. While the prototype could be seen as a universal series of event based processes, it is the relationship of the prototype to the site’s environment that would yield the greatest amount of generative effects. Considerations taken into account for deployability are distinctive climates (seasonal and daily variation in temperature and precipitation), urban conditions with a high degree of shelter-investment towards architecture, and the role of water both socially and culturally.     The prototype building was designed with the aim to experiment and run the whole design process for the first time, following generative phases, which come together as part of the system. Furthermore, the prototype was born siteless, due to that, the context did not affect the project trying to be fitted or regionalized, instead the process took a direction engaged with an experimentation of forms, size, heights and transitions between interior and exterior spaces in order to take advantage of the oportunity as a demonstration of the effectiveness of the system with an ability to by applied to any kind of building.
